Different ways

There seems to be different ways to make money online. Some are simple and some are complicated. Simple are create what they call a squeeze page, get email addresses to add to a list and send them to a sales page for a free offer or something inexpensive. The list is the main object of the exercise. As you build a list you offer more things, both free and paid. You offer quality information or resources and from time to time offer items for sale. It builds over time and you have a solid customer base that trust you and what you offer.

One other way is to identify items for sale that people are interested in and create a website with the express purpose of selling that item to that person. No lists are collected, you sell and move on to the next. This seems to be a quicker way to sell and make money but you are always having to find something new, create the sites and send it out there.

Both seem to have their pluses and minuses and I am moving on both fronts. i think one way of looking at this is I am going to create two business models and run them side by side. Let you know how it goes.

More thoughts

One thing I have firmed up in my head is that creating an online business takes as much dedication as any other endeavor. There is no such thing as set it up and forget. And the setup part is complicated if you want something that will last.

Of the three programs that I am working on I am going to complete Chris’s program first. I think I will come away with a good foundation of understanding of what internet marketing is about. I will then work on Matt’s and Sean’s programs to get into additional types of marketing.

It’s not easy, and anyone who says it is lies. That’s just the way it is. I want something that will last a long time requiring a consistent amount of effort on my part. After all, it’s going to suppport me for the rest of my working life.

More thoughts

There are a couple of things I wanted to add to yesterdays post. I have been looking at other marketers systems. There are two that I am studying at the same time I am studying Chris’s system. They are more complex because they assume you are Internet marketing smart, or at least semi-smart. It looks like they have good ideas and they will work but it’s just going to take longer to get up to speed.

One is a gentleman named Matt Carter. He is out of Australia and I like his philosophy regarding Internet marketing. So far I like his program but I’m only part way through it.

The other gentleman is named Sean Donahoe and he has a completely different approach. His system is a bit more involved and I am working through it also.

Two things I have learned right away; do one program at a time, and you need to get signed up with many affiliate networks or CPA networks. I think I have that right, I’m still learning about this part.

Making money online?

This is the area where I am going to talk about my efforts to see if I can make an online business.

I’ve decided that I am tired of working for other people and not being in control of my own destiny. I’m not really interested in starting an offline business because I tend to travel quite a bit. No sense in starting something that will keep me in one place all the time. This is what intrigues me about an online business, the ability to do it from most anywhere.

I started out looking all over the Internet for information about how to make money online. After a bazillion hits and looking through what felt like millions of sites I came across one that actually sounded reasonable. No hype, none of the “make millions in two days!!!” nonsense but a straight forward explanation of what it will take to build a business online. His name is Chris Farrell and he is actually a pretty good teacher. His main thrust is to create and build a list which will become my customer base over time. But the most important part of what Chris does is to teach from the ground up. He teaches the fundamentals which most out there do not. So many teach their systems but there seems to be an assumption that you are already very savvy about how the technical parts work. Well, if you are new and trying to build there are so many things that you don’t know. The results, you get lost and lose interest because it’s over your head. That is what has been happening to me. I’m very computer savvy on both Macs and PC’s but a novice when it come to the world of Internet marketing. This is where Chris shines. He explains in simple terms, he shows you how it works and why it works that way, no assumptions. I’m in the third week of a course that Chris has and I will post here on a regular basis about my progress. This is my first post of what I hope will be many and If someday someone else reads this because they want to start an online business I hope they get something out of it.
